Daisy Thomas Offers Up His AFL Recruit Of The Year

Daisy Thomas has picked Josh Dunkley to be his AFL recruit of the year on the Midweek Rub.

MIDWEEK RUB’S RECRUITS OF THE YEAR:

The Lions are set to be boosted with the inclusions of Dunkley and Jack Gunston, while Damo tips a 12 month layoff for Liam Jones won’t affect his ability to perform for the Dogs.

Brisbane gave up a haul of selections including their future first-rounder for Dunkley, who Daisy believes will add vital defensive presence into their midfield mix.

“I think that midfield is screaming out for someone to either defend, or show them how to defend,” he said on the Midweek Rub.

With Will Ashcroft set to receive midfield minutes from the get-go, it will be a new-look Lions engine room searching for their first Grand Final appearance since 2004.

BEST OF TRIPLE M FOOTY:

They also brought in veteran Jack Gunston as they look to add offensive firepower to a forward line that lost Daniel McStay in free agency, with Damo bullish on Gunston’s impact at his third club.

“I think the Gunston recruit by Brisbane Lions is going to prove to be a masterstroke.

“The footy brain that he’s got is going to help them immensely.”

The Dogs will be buoyed by Liam Jones’ pre-season at Whitten Oval – the veteran defender has hit the ground running and recorded 13 intercepts against North. Joey thinks the 32-year-old is set for a big season anchoring the Dogs’ defence.

“I think Liam Jones will have the biggest impact… I can see him anchoring that defence.

“When we look back we’ll realise he was awesome for a four year period at the Blues.”
