Leigh Montagna has called for an overhaul of the grading system for bumps by the Match Review Officer, stating that a bump “should be a starting point for automatic suspension”.
Joey listed blocks and bracing for contact as opportunities to bump legally, but said those bumps outside that scope should be graded harshly.
“Maybe we need to look at rule changes and change the laws around a bump and how it’s going to be adjudicated suspension wise.
“There’s three ways you can do it. I think you’ve still got a place to be able to block… there’s the one where you brace for contact.
“I think we need to get to a point where if you choose to bump… that should be a starting point for automatic suspension.”
Daisy agreed with Joey, but wants the AFL to forewarn players and clubs about any changes to interpretation.
“I’m not sure why they didn’t come and say, ‘If you bump, you’re in trouble.
“The bump is officially dead.”
