‘I Wake Up Screaming’: Hospitalised Sydney Referee Reveals Brutal Recovery After On-Field Attack

The Sydney referee hospitalised after an on-field attack has revealed to Triple M he continues to have “nightmares” as he faces a long-term recovery.

Khodr Yaghi was refereeing a local match between the Greenacre Eagles and the Padstow Hornets in April when things took a turn for the worst at the conclusion of the game.

The 45-year-old referee was knocked to the ground and hit with repeated blows to the face, before being rushed to Liverpool Hospital where it was determined he suffered a broken jaw and was missing four teeth.

A video of the disturbing moment went viral on social media shortly after the incident.

“Sleepless nights, painful… I wake up screaming. I have been having nightmares, dreams of someone trying to choke me,” Yaghi said of the recovery on Triple M’s Rush Hour.

Adam Abdullah, a 25-year-old amateur boxer, was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and affray over the alleged attack.
