Robert Harvey Reflects On Working With Trevor Barker and Danny Frawley

Ahead of St Kilda’s 150th anniversary celebrations, club legend Robert Harvey reflected on what it was like entering the Saints as a teenager and working with Trevor Barker and Danny Frawley.

At just 16-years-old, Harvey had a lot to learn and looked up the Barks and Spud who remain two of the Saints most beloved players.

Harvey said St Kilda’s celebrations this weekend will be in honour of players like Barks and Spud, who had done so much for their club.

“As a young fella coming through the system, I was only 16 when I started. He [Trevor] was a prodigy, I was a young fella, apprentice, to Barks in the early days,” Harvey said on Dead Set Legends Melbourne with Joey, Jay, Kath and Lehmo.

“I think there is a lot of thought around that stuff, but in the end, he was just a great mentor of mine as was as Danny Frawley. They obviously enjoyed themselves, but they worked so hard.

“This is a chance, even tonight, to honour these sort of people. Trevor Barker – as much as he was known for his off-field stuff – he loved that club so much.

“I think tonight, is much about people like him and Spud and people who have been and gone  who have given so much to the red white and black.”
