Todd Carney on Footy Talk League’s Half-Time explained that both the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and Cronulla Sharks have a lot of pressure on them heading into the final round of the season.
LISTEN HERE:
The Bulldogs heavy defeat to the Manly Sea Eagles was one shock on the weekend.
Then the Cronulla Sharks falling to a historic comeback by the New Zealand Warriors, in a fairytale finish for Shaun Johnson’s career caught many by surprise.
Now, both clubs are at risk of heading into the Finals Series.
And the possibility of two straight losses and finishing in worse positions than they would have not been expecting has created a cause for concern.
“Both teams have a lot to play for this weekend, individuals need to step up,” said Carney.
The Bulldogs have a tough test against the North Queensland Cowboys, as both teams will be fighting to host an elimination final.
The Sharks, who may have to settle for fourth, will have to fight a confident Manly Sea Eagles side with the same prize on the line as the Doggies and the men from Townsville.
Carney explained that question marks that build around teams in poor form can be a huge weight on clubs and their players.
“You don’t want the criticism going into Finals,” stated Carney
“That your team’s going to bow out and [asked] have the wheels fallen off??
“If you lose those two you’re going to cop that criticism going into the Finals.”
