Royce Simmons On Penrith Panthers Success

Penrith Panthers legend, 1991 Grand Final winner, Royce Simmons joined The Rush Hour after his former side wrapped up their fourth consecutive premiership.

“It’s the best side of all time,” said Simmons.

Continuing on why, the ex-Panther explained the pressures of salary-cap squeezes have to be taken into account, especially when comparing it to the great St George Dragons side of the 1950-60s that won 11 straight.

“In the past four years they’ve lost something like 21/22 players,” said Simmons.

“About four, five every year.”

Simmons also comments on the departure of Jarome Luai and James Fisher-Harris after being asked if the Penrith Panthers can win a fifth straight title.

But he makes the point of every season, the club gets written off for losing to many stars, yet they continue to lift the trophy at the end of the season.

“Every year, I thought, oh it’s going to be tough for them next year.

“And they’ve just proven me wrong every time.”
