Prime Minister Anthony Albanese Announces $40 Million Upgrade To Leichhardt Oval

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has exclusively revealed to Mick & MG In The Morning, his government will be funding a much-needed upgrade to Leichhardt Oval.


“There’s nowhere better to be on an afternoon than sitting on the Wayne Pearce Hill at Leichhardt Oval, it’s just fabulous,” PM Albanese told Triple M on Friday morning.  

“Even if you’re at a Bunnies & Tigers game, everyone gets into you but it’s good fun.

“If it wasn’t upgraded, the truth is, the Wests Tigers were going to leave and not play there.”

The $40 Million investment, to be led by the Inner West Council, includes upgrades to; new female friendly change rooms, increased seating capacity of 3,000 & a new northern grandstand.

The Commonwealth is committing $20 million to the project with the NSW Government & Inner West Council investing $10 million each towards the upgrade.

The Wests Tigers, were considering moving away from Leichhardt Oval due to the venue not meeting NRL requirements.
