Brisbane Broncos front-rower Payne Haas is out of contract at the end of 2024, with speculation mounting as to what’s in store for his future in the NRL.
Haas has reportedly tabled three demands to the Broncos: a contract worth $1.1 million per season, as well as a premiership and post-career opportunities to help him in life after football.
On Triple M NRL’s The Saturday Scrum, Brent Read shared his thoughts on Haas’ contract negotiations, saying he believes the Broncos star could become ‘the highest-paid player in the game’.

“He’ll get $1.1 million at the Broncos, that’s not an issue,” Read said.
“He’ll get offered a lot more by other clubs, though. That’s going to be the Broncos’ problem.
“He could rival Kalyn Ponga as the highest-paid player in the game. Ponga’s on just over $1.4 [million] this year, just over $1.5 million next year.
“I think some club will offer Payne Haas that sort of money. He’s that good a player.”
