Craig Wing On Using Two 9’s In Origin “I Needed To Change The Tempo Of The Game”

The early 00’s use of Danny Buderus and Craig Wing worked wonders for NSW Blues but the latter joined Footy Talk’s Woodsy’s Club Tour to discuss the effectiveness of using two hookers during State of Origin.

LISTEN HERE:

“Well it worked for us,” started Wing.

Wing would find himself behind Buderus, coming off the bench to play at 9 or other positions, but the Sydney Roosters legend was able to weaponise his “super-sub” role.

“I always took the approach that if I’m going on the field, I need to change the tempo of the game.

“I need to make a difference.

“I’m fresher than everyone else, so I should be able to do more.”

It’s a past trend the Blues haven’t utilised for a while, yet their State of Origin rivals Queensland Maroons have found great success with both Ben Hunt and Harry Grant.

With Reece Robson starting for the Blues in the upcoming Game 1 and Cameron McInnes in the lock position who has a vast amount of experience at hooker, Michael Maguire might have something up his sleeve to make the most of the dummy-half role.
