Triple M’s Mark Geyer has paid tribute to the 14th Immortal Ron Coote.
“He won 6 Premierships but one of his greatest achievements is founding the Men of League which has gone on to help thousands of ex-players and their families in hardship.”
LISTEN BELOW:
Coote was announced as the 14th Immortal at a gala dinner at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday night.
Coote was considered when the original Immortals were announced in 1981 but missed out.
Now 43-years later Coote finally swapped his Hall of Fame jacket for an Immortal Jacket.
“I’m a bit taken for words at the moment,” Coote said before pausing to hold back tears.
“I never thought I’d be crying at 80, but I am.
“To me it’s just sensational, I never thought it’d happen.
I’ve been at this function a few times and this time I got the gong so that’s really good to me, I really appreciate it, thank you.”
