James Graham on Triple M’s Monday Scrum has provided a fascinating insight into why it’s so difficult to get the better of premiership favourites Melbourne Storm and Penrith Panthers.
The latter, reigning three-time champions.
The former, current minor premiers.
Their preliminary final opponents, Sydney Roosters and Cronulla Sharks respectively don’t have great current records against the competition’s best duo.
And James Graham explained exactly why both Penrith and Melbourne are the competition front runners.
“One thing you can’t afford to do is beat yourself,” said Graham.
“Penrith, Melbourne, they land this blow before a ball is even kicked.”

The Chooks have only won once in their last 21 meetings against both Storm and Panthers.
Whilst the Sharks pulled off an impressive victory away in Melbourne in May, they’ve only beaten the Storm twice since July, 2019 and have only beaten the Panthers once since August, 2019.
