2024 premiers Penrith Panthers ruled themselves of competing in next year’s annual World Club Challenge due to concerns about player fatigue after a gruelling season, the club’s round 1 fixture in Las Vegas and the upcoming international period.
The Panthers would have played 2024 English Super League champions Wigan Warriors but their decision has effectively halted any plans for the 2025 fixture to go ahead.
But Michael Chammas on Footy Talk League Journo’s Show came up with an idea that could take advantage of the NRL going to Las Vegas to start the season next year.
And it involves an early fixture in Los Angeles!
LISTEN HERE:
“Well Penrith are meant to get a week off after they come back [from Vegas],” stated Chammas.
“Why don’t both go LA, 40 minute flight.
“You play it on the Saturday night, the following week when Penrith are meant to have a week off.
“You give Penrith the bye in round two, which gives them a two week break when they get home.”
