Yet, the decision caught the rugby league world by surprise.
Steve Mitchell explained why the Titans decided to pull the trigger.
‘We think the squad is in good knick, from a skills point of view it’s one of the best squads in the competition.
‘Last year was disappointing for us, we capitulated,’ said Mitchell.
‘We started the year nice and gritty but the last four, five weeks we regressed to where we were last year.
‘It was a collective decision.
‘Everyone agreed that we weren’t heading in the right direction.’
