Hunt’s Future And Kyle Flanagan On The Move? | Ready’s Mail On The Latest At The Dragons

There’s plenty going on at the St George Illawarra Dragons, with Sea Eagles assistant coach Shane Flanagan set to take over as head coach in 2024, but seemingly already making moves off the field.

Brent Read shared his mail on the Dragons on the Saturday Scrum on Triple M NRL, indicating that Flanagan’s appointment could mean that disgruntled star Ben Hunt stays put.

LISTEN NOW:

“Flanno’s made it pretty clear that he wants Ben Hunt to stay,” Read said.

“Whether that’s only for 12 months, or whether it’s for the full two years of his contract, I don’t know, but I think Ben Hunt will be there next year.

“My gut feel is at the moment, that they won’t let him go. They’ll dig their heels in.”

Read also added that Kyle Flanagan, son of Shane, is being considered by the Dragons as they hunt to refresh their roster.

“Kyle’s played a bit of hooker in the NSW Cup for the Dogs, and come on and played a little bit in the NRL as well, and I think there’s a belief he can be a really good hooker down the track,” he said.

“He may not necessarily go there as a half back if he does go.

“I think he will end up there, but he may not go as a half back.”
