Off the back of Rothfield’s column for the Daily Telegraph the pair discussed the club’s weaknesses off the field, analysing the Dragons poor positioning in tv ratings, social media metrics and crowd numbers.
Though club chairman Andrew Lancaster quickly defended the Saints, stating that “tv numbers were up 12.8%” and four home games were sellouts, Brent Read highlighted a different issue altogether.
“They’re not a Sydney club anymore!”
Ready in reference to the clubs 1999 merger between St George Dragons and Illawarra Steelers, explained that he believes the club’s identity in the south of Sydney, where it was once a traditional powerhouse has now waned in the modern day.
Asked if it “was a good thing” by Buzz, Ready denied it.
“No!
“Wollongong’s not a market like Sydney.”
