Peter V’landys’ Bid To Lure American Talent For NRL Expansion

Peter V’landys has revealed he’s hopeful of luring talent from America to the NRL, amid news of the game’s revamped bid to expand the competition.

The ARLC Chairman confirmed on Triple M’s Sunday Sin Bin the Federal Government has asked the NRL to look into expanding the competition with a PNG team, which come could come as soon as 2025.

But V’landys was quizzed on where the game would find the talent to fill another team by Broncos legend Gorden Tallis, and was asked whether athletes who fall short in American sport could be utilised as a talent pool for rugby league.

“There’s a market in America for NFL players to come here,” V’landys said on Triple M’s Sunday Sin Bin.

“The model is basketball. Anybody who doesn’t make basketball in America comes to Australia.

“Where do all the college players go that don’t make it to the NFL?”

V’landys’ comments come after Tallis echoed a similar opinion earlier in the show.

“The most wasted talent in sport, is America… If you don’t play in the NFL, there are thousands that sit there,” Tallis said earlier on Triple M’s Sunda Sin Bin.

“There are 20-year-old and 18-year-old kids… if we really want to really grow the game and market, why aren’t we looking over there?”
