Controversy struck Cronulla’s tough win in the wet on Friday night, with Roosters coach Trent Robinson left fuming at referee Grant Atkins, who ruled that Collins’ effort fell short of the line before the bunker backed the decision after a review.

“I think they missed it, to be honest. I feel like the way that Lindsay lunged late and then got there, they got surprised by it and so therefore the bunker needed to look at that,” Robinson told reporters after the match.

“It was pretty clear from the angles that I saw that the ball was on the line.”

A try would’ve levelled the match at 16 apiece with a conversion to take the lead in the dying stages.

It was a moment that also divided the Triple M commentary team, with Graham left scratching his head at the decision to deny Collins the try.

“You don’t think that ball is on the line there?” Graham said in commentary for Triple M.
