Connor Watson Rips ‘Unfair’ Kalyn Ponga Claim

Roosters utility Connor Watson has ripped suggestions former teammate and Knights superstar Kalyn Ponga doesn’t love the game of rugby league.

Ponga came under the firing line from some of the NRL’s leading journalists on Thursday, with Nine and The Sydney Morning Herald’s Michael Chammas telling LiSTNR that he believes the Knights star “doesn’t love the game.”

“He doesn’t love the game like some – like a Boyd Cordner or James Tedesco,” Chammas said. “He plays it because he’s very good at it.”

Watson, who lived with Ponga for three years when the pair were teammates in Newcastle, hit back at those claims.

“I don’t think that’s true,” Watson said on LiSTNR’s Footy Talk League Podcast.

“You don’t have to watch it all the time to be in love with it.

“One thing I really took from him when I started living with him – was how to go to training, get your work done and be really locked in, but when you get away from footy – to actually get away from it.

“I don’t think you need to go home and be watching every game, obsessing about it.”
