Leading NRL journalist Brent Read and Panthers legend Ryan Girdler have clashed over calls for the grand final to be moved out of Sydney.

The location of the grand final in future seasons came under the microscope this week, after Peter V’landys said he was prepared to take the showpiece to Melbourne, saying “It could be an option for us.”
V’landys’ comments were in response to Visit Victoria CEO Brendan McClements, who suggested his state would make sense from a “commercial decision”.
“I have got 35,000 more seats for Peter. In a purely commercial decision, that is $4-5 million waiting for him. So, I would like to talk to Peter at some stage about that,” McClements said.
The ongoing debate led to a fierce back and forth on Triple M’s Saturday Scrum, with Read arguing that if the grand final is moved to the highest bidder, it would open up funding for local stadiums.
