Leading NRL journalist Danny Weidler has revealed Rugby Australia has started receiving expressions of interest from current NRL players following Roosters star Joseph Suaalii’s shock switch to the 15-man code.
LISTEN HERE:
Suaalii, 19, last week stunned the rugby league world when it was revealed he would take up a $1.6 million per year deal from 2025 with Rugby Australia.
Suaalii’s mega-deal has since resulted in the governing body communicating with another NRL player, with Weidler revealing chairman Hamish McLennan has received an expression of interest.
“I spoke to Hamish McLennan and he said that a player has already reached out to him to come over to rugby,” Weidler said on LiSTNR’s Footy Talk League Podcast.
“He also talked about how Rugby’s aim is to reclaim what it has lost… there’s going to be a few they target.”
