Newcastle Knights Director of Football Peter Parr joined The Rush Hour Queensland with AB & Elliot.
Parr gave an insight on star Kalyn Ponga and the fullback’s trip to Canada to study the impact of his numerous concussions.
LISTEN HERE TO THE FULL CHAT:
Ponga featured in the Knights 18-16 loss to the North Queensland Cowboys, his first appearance since Round 2.
Though regardless of the result, Parr and the Knights are very happy to have their co-captain back.
‘He’s got clarity back from a health point of view, clarity where he’s playing in the team,’ said Parr.
‘Now he’s got that game out of the road, he’s expected to improve now.’
Though Parr did give an explanation as to why Ponga was sent to Canada to study the effects of his repeated concussions, rather than focus on his recovery here in Australia.
‘It came about because of our medical staff. We have a consultant, professor Chris Levi,’ explained Parr.
‘Chris had been researching worldwide, looking for ways to help Kalyn and other people.
‘His research led him to Vancouver.
‘He felt that the testing, the advancements and the model of care that they had at this particular place would be good for Kalyn.
‘We were able to get accurate measurements of his brain and rehabilitation since his last knock.’
