Only one other woman holds a greater record, Australia’s Margaret Court who finished her career with 24 major titles.
Despite Margaret holding the record, The Sport’s Sam Squires says there’s no doubt that Serena though is the GOAT – doing more than just playing exceptional tennis to earn the recognition.
“There is no question. She is the greatest player of all,” she said.
“I think the fact that we question this as well is part of what I was talking about, the sexism that she’s had to overcome throughout her career.
“She’s often referred to as the greatest female player of all time – she has 23 Grand Slams in the open era and that’s more than any male or any female.”
