Graham Arnold’s Next Steps Revealed

Former Socceroos coach Graham Arnold has opened up about his future aspirations following his departure from the national team on the most recent Howie Games podcast episode.

With a refreshing openness, Arnold revealed his plans and emotions as he embarks on a new chapter in his career.

“I really want to have a break until December 1,” Arnold stated, highlighting the importance of taking time for himself before diving back into the world of football.

“And then I want to obviously go on a new journey. I believe strongly that I’ll get something good.”

“Of course I want to continue on. I’m 61. I still feel fit and still feel ready to go. But I need a break first,” he shared, emphasising his commitment and passion for the sport.

As for his ambitions, Arnold expressed a desire to return to the World Cup stage, possibly with another nation.

“I want to go to another World Cup. Maybe with another nation. There’s plenty of people that do that.”

“If it’s club football, then it has to be something in a good country that I want to live as well, because I’ve got to be there every day of the year.”

Arnold reflected on the successes of fellow Australian coach Ange Postecoglou, who continues to make waves in the English Premier League.

“I love watching Ange play. I get goosebumps now thinking about him,” Arnold said, recalling the excitement of seeing Postecoglou at Old Trafford (in Tottenham’s recent 3-0 win over Manchester United).

Arnold recognised their shared experiences, noting that the challenges of coaching the Socceroos can take a toll.

“At the end of the day, I think he would say exactly the same as why he left the Socceroos—it was just a game in Australia wore us out.”
