As the 2024 US Masters inches closer and the world’s best golfers set their sights on Augusta National’s hallowed greens, Adam Scott reveals the delightful quirks of winning the prestigious green jacket.
Scott recounts how he cheekily draped his Masters jacket over his sofa, only to tell his stunned friends to ‘get off’ the iconic garment.
“The fun thing is you get to keep the jacket for a year after you win it. And then it always stay back in the locker room at the club.”
“The jackets don’t leave the club except for the champion who gets to carry it around. I took it everywhere with me for 300 plus days,” Scott explained back in episode 100 of Australia’s #1 sports podcast, The Howie Games.
“Just to have it lying around the house. A few times I would leave it over the back of the sofa when we would have friends coming over. And they would walk in and sit on the sofa, and I would say, “just get off that jacket”.”
“They couldn’t believe it was the jacket.”
Adam Scott’s camaraderie with the green jacket is no longer confined to his home.
Each year, the tradition continues at Augusta, where he shares a locker with a legend.
“When I go back and play the tournament and you get back to your locker. And I am lucky to share a locker with Gary Player there now. And the two jackets are there in the locker for us for the week.”
Scott dons the emblem of greatness daily, joining the exclusive circle of champions for a reflective drink after each days play.
“I put it on every day. After the round I put it on and sit up there with the other champions. I have one drink.”
“You gotta soak that in… those things I look forward to every year very much.”
