Damian Barrett believes Ken Hinkley will become Tasmania’s prefered coaching target after Port Adelaide confirmed the succession plan handover to Josh Carr.
“He can now take a phone call ethically, morally… Brendan Gale wants someone who has been in the system. He wants someone with a bit of grey hair.” Barret told Mick In The Morning with Roo, Titus & Rosie.
Despite not having the ultimate success, Barrett says Hinkley poses as the suitable mentor for the AFL’s newest club.
Barrett backed in Port Adelaide’s call to make 2025 Hinkley’s final season in charge before Carr steps in, saying the plan works on multiple levels.
“It removes the noise. They’ve got a supporter base that has wanted Ken’s head for 5 or 6 years. They now know that he’s going regardless of result. It’s respectful to Ken.”
