The Midweek Rub’s Daisy Thomas has been away partying in England for the last two weeks, and on his return to the show today he told us about a night out with England cricket captain Ben Stokes — days before the Lord’s Ashes Test!
“I went out on the gas Saturday night with Ben Stokes, Paul Collingwood, and the big left hand opener… from South Africa [Graeme Smith],” Daisy said.
“You had a beer with Ben Stokes?” Joey asked.
“We had a vodka,” Daisy replied.
“Four day before the Ashes, he walked us into a nightclub, he, I and a couple of others in the back booth and he’s dancing around with bottles of vodka and having a good time!”
Vodkas with Stokes wasn’t the only mischief Daisy got up to in England, having had a small run-in with King Charles at Royal Ascot as well.
He also told us all about his other shenanigans at Lord’s on the Sunday Rub.
Clearly the night out didn’t hamper Stokes too much: he flayed the Australian bowling attack for a stunning 155 — featuring nine sixes —in an ultimately futile attempt at chasing 371.
Daisy’s night out with Stokes came well before the flashpoint of that Test — and the Ashes so far — when Alex Carey controversially stumped Jonny Bairstow on day 5 at Lord’s.
That’s probably a handy thing for Daisy — it’s fair to say Stokes may not have been in the mood for beers with an Australian after that happened.
Daisy — along with Joey Montagna and Damian Barrett — also discussed the heat going up on Stuart Dew, Buddy Franklin’s MCG swan song, Jordan de Goey’s ominous return and more.
