Triple M Perth breakfast host Xavier Ellis gave an update on his best mate Tom Hawkins’ future on his show Breakfast with Xav & Michelle this morning.
XAVIER ELLIS ON TOM HAWKINS’ FUTURE:
Damian Barrett said yesterday that the out of big Cat’s future still isn’t clear on the Midweek Rub yesterday.
“There is a decision to be made,” Damo said.
“Whether there’s an announcement between now and the game [against the Western Bulldogs] on Saturday… it’s yet to be made 100% official.”
Listen to Damo’s comments here:
Xav took Damo’s comments to mean there was a suggestion Hawkins may retire, and explained his own mail on the subject.
“I think that’s about making an announcement of his retirement this week or in the next couple of weeks,” Xav said.
“I do know someone close to Tommy…”
Never miss anything with the Best of Triple M Footy playlist:
Xav and Hawkins are long term mates, with their friendship going back to rooming together at Melbourne Grammar School in 2004.
Hawkins has become a Geelong great since being drafted in 2006, playing 347 games for 781 goals, three flags, 5 All-Australian blazers, a Coleman Medal and a best and fairest.
If Xav is right and he plays on, Hawkins will almost certainly play his 350th game and most likely kick his 800th goal.
He would overtake Joel Selwood as the Cats’ games record holder — Selwood retired as premiership captain last year with 355 games under his belt.
