Why Kate McCarthy Quit Playing Footy, And Why It’s A Problem That’s Detrimental To The Growth Of The League

After yet another long wait for a season start date, the AFLW 2023 season has been confirmed to kick off at the beginning of September.

Clubs began pre-season a fortnight ago, while players still await a new CBA agreement, and clarification around the league’s future.

AFLW Bulldogs assistant coach and former 3 club player Kate McCarthy joined Dale Thomas on the Footy Talk podcast this morning, to discuss her journey through the league and the possible strike action from players in the women’s league.

Kate spoke about the reason she retired, a reason that would resonate with so many players in the same position.

Daisy and Kate also spoke about her transition into media, and previewed tonight’s game with Port taking on the reining premiers, Geelong.
