“We’ve Gone Too Far”: Nick Riewoldt Unloads On The MRO/Dangerous Tackle Debate

Nick Riewoldt believes we have “blinked and gone too far” to outlaw dangerous tackles in the effort to try and protect players from being concussed.

Reacting to the bans handed out to Toby Bedford and Charlie Cameron, who were both handed three weeks for dangerous tackles on Sunday, Riewoldt said the MRO framework was out of sync.

He told Leigh Montagna on Tuesday’s episode of Footy Talk that, as much as players should be protected from concussive episodes, players can’t be missing three weeks for an “act that had no malice in it”.

“Until we overhaul the system at the end of the year, I’m not sure anything’s going to change…you can’t not tackle. What are the coaches going to say, what are the commentators going to say?”
