The Ben McKay Comments That Support Ross Lyon’s Marvel Stadium Complaints

Audio has surfaced of North Melbourne defender Ben McKay commenting about the Marvel Stadium roof, which support Saints coach Ross Lyon’s criticism from Sunday.

LISTEN HERE:

Ross said the stadium roof being left open made the stadium surface wet, and Ben’s comments on LiSTNR’s Ben & Harry Podcast in May back up his assertions.

“We get to the ground on Saturday (the 20th May, to play Sydney), and we walk out before the game and it is sopping wet on the ground,” Ben said.

“The mistake they made even worse is that it rained overnight.

“So they didn’t read the forecast… it was basically a wet weather game.”

Brother Harry spoke on the roof situation as well.

“I’m assuming what they do is leave it open to try and nourish the grass… but what they do, if there’s moisture in the air and they shut the roof, it gets wet,” he said.

“Take your medicine, and from the second it’s game day just leave the roof shut.”

MORE OF BEN MCKAY ON MARVEL STADIUM:

“Same thing happened 2021, round 1 against Port Adelaide,” he said.

“I think it was what Harry said, it didn’t rain, but it was just the condensation or whatever.

“It was slippery… it just shouldn’t happen.”

Saints coach Ross Lyon had put the Marvel roof and surface on the agenda after their game against North Melbourne on Sunday evening.

“I’m pretty sure if it was Essendon v Bulldogs on Friday night, they wouldn’t have let the roof open all night, all morning,” says Ross Lyon.

“Really disappointing… I thought we got treated with contempt, both clubs.”
