The AFL’s stance on dissent towards umpires has come back into the frame after round three, forcing the AFL’s head of umpiring to release a statement on Monday.
It’s a statement Nick Riewoldt has unloaded on.
“If there was no challenge to the decision, regardless of personal opinion on the threshold, then no free kick could or would have been paid,” AFL head of umpiring Dan Richardson said.
Riewoldt – speaking on Footy Talk on Tuesday – said the AFL should have instead conceded the ruling was incorrect.
“He doesn’t believe in what he’s saying there, is my opinion,” he stated.
“And no shit…do you honestly think that the AFL want it umpired that way?”
