Nick Riewoldt says North Melbourne star Harry Sheezel is fit to take on the captaincy of the club at the age of 20, provided he ticks all the leadership boxes.
(from 12:58)
Riewoldt – who himself skippered St Kilda at 21 years old – told Footy Talk on Tuesday North Melbourne should “give him the reins” if he has all the right attributes.
Sheezel has improved on a best and fairest-winning debut season, averaging 32 disposals per game in 2024 and leading the league in marks.
“I think there’s a lot more to it than just making your best player captain,” he began.
“They’ve got to be a leader in terms of the way they command the group, they’ve got to be the leader in the way they prepare Monday to Friday.
“But assuming he ticks those boxes then yeah, I don’t have a problem with making a 20-year-old captain.”
Footy Talk isn’t missing a moment of footy this season, with Dale Thomas, Leigh Montagna, Abbey Holmes, Nick Riewoldt and more! New episodes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
