Footy’s biggest Richmond fan, Mick Molloy, reacted to Damien Hardwick’s shock decision to stand down as Tigers coach on the Marty Sheargold Show this morning.
“Black armbands are on,” Mick said.
“[I] did not see any of this coming… the only thing I can think of is there’s not enough medicinal marijuana in Melbourne to keep Damien Hardwick in the office!”
Mick said it surely wasn’t a reaction purely to the one point Dreamtime loss to Essendon — unless there was a very specific circumstance involved.
“I don’t you think react to a one point loss [by quitting],” Mick said to Marty.
“Unless he’s made, like you and I have done occasionally, the 3AM phone call, where you go ‘and another thing!’”

On a more serious note, Mick said it was sad to see Hardwick go after the way he turned the club around.
“Let’s be honest, we were a basket case, and since his reign there have been three flags and he’s turned us into a powerhouse,” he said.
“You can’t deny it, we were on the ropes… and here we are, looking like one of the big clubs, with recent success.”
Mick did have one request for Tigers supporters though:
“Please Richmond fans, this is not time for a load of chicken manure at Punt Road!”
