Damien Hardwick was famously courted by Gold Coast executives in Italy to get him over the line as new Suns coach, and today he told us what meal they bought him to get his signature.
“We’d been in Italy for about two and a half weeks by that stage, and they said we’re going to an Italian restaurant,” Dimma said on Triple M Gold Coast Breakfast with Flan, Ali & Spida.
“I went ‘aahh, not more pasta’!”

Dimma also expanded further on the Italian Job meeting, beyond just feed they had.
“They reached out to my manager about a week earlier and said they wanted to come over face to face, and look, I’m glad they did,” he said.
“It sort of sparked my interest, and I did a fair bit of due diligence and worked through the list pretty thoroughly.
“More importantly, I knew a lot of people up in that organisation which is really important… they probably had me after entree, to be fair!”

Dimma also gave an insight into some other elements that nearly entered negotiations.
“I was probably trying to think how I could wrangle business class seats back out of them!” he said.
“If you’re prepared to come all this way, if you give me business class seats I’ll certainly jump on board!”
