Damian Barrett On The Sanctions Facing Port Adelaide

Triple M Footy news breaker Damian Barrett explained the level of sanctions facing Port Adelaide for their treatment of Aliir Aliir and Lachie Jones after a nasty head clash on the weekend.

DAMIAN BARRETT ON POTENTIAL SANCTIONS FOR PORT ADELAIDE:

“You’ve then got a situation now where the AFL has, for the first time I can recall, pulled rank on a club and the handling of the matter,” Damo said on the Midweek Rub.

“It’s a mess.

“We don’t yet know what the AFL is gonna do by way of a sanction.

“It is going to be significant, and the messaging that will come out of will be ‘this can never happen again’, and if it is, there might even be premiership points at stake.

“Not for Port Adelaide, I don’t feel they’ll do that, and they lost the game anyway.

“But there will be a sanction of a nature, that just makes it really clear that this can never, ever, be contemplated again, let alone actually happen.”

Aliir and Jones clashed heads in the second quarter of the Showdown on Saturday night, with Port Adelaide’s medical staff deeming the incident not worthy of conducting a SCAT5 test.

The SCAT5 is what the AFL considers a concussion test, mandating 15 minutes off the ground.

Jones was subbed off with a migraine.

MORE FROM DAMIAN BARRETT:

Aliir and Jones were both placed into concussion protocols on Monday after presenting with symptoms, meaning neither will be available to face Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night.

The AFL issued the club a please explain on Monday morning.

MORE FROM THE MIDWEEK RUB:

The Midweek Rub crew — Joey Montagna, Daisy Thomas and Damo — also discussed Buddy Franklin’s retirement, the show’s advice that Carlton followed, the Zorko-Miller alleged squirrel grip incident and more.
