Leading rugby league reporter Danny Weidler has shared his fascinating experiences covering the huge 2013 doping scandal that was dubbed ‘the blackest day in Australian sport’.
Weidler walked down memory lane following the news Shane Flanagan, who was suspended for 12 months for his involvement in the Cronulla Sharks supplement scandal, has been appointed coach of the Dragons from next year.
LISTEN TO DANNY RE-LIVE HIS WILD EXPERIENCES FROM THE DOPING SCANDAL ON THE FOOTY TALK PODCAST:
“Where it was really difficult was the impact it had on people’s lives, everybody’s lives,” Weidler said on Footy Talk.
“The players who did or didn’t know what was going on. The coach. The trainer. The doctors. The entire club. The CEOs.
“I won’t name names but I had first grade footballers who would call me at all hours of the day and night in tears not knowing what was going on with their lives.”
