Channel 9 and Triple M NRL resident journos Michael Chammas and Danny Weidler explained how the reality show, soap opera saga that transpired earlier in the week played out live on television, as Manly Sea Eagles captain Daly Cherry-Evans announced that he would be leaving the club at season’s end.
NRL turned into pure drama!
A scheduled guest appearance from Cherry-Evans on 9’s 100% Footy to further explain his future plans was overshadowed by a very spontaneous and surprising message into Fox League’s NRL 360 from Manly bosses stating their hopes in keeping their skipper.
“The publicity stunt [to] call [NRL] 360 and offer a contract to Cherry-Evans on air without telling him or his manager,” started Chammas.
“That is pure amateur hour!” stated Weidler.
“Does it give Manly credibility? No.
“I think it damages their credibility,” said Weidler.
“[This] is to try spin the narrative to make Manly look like they didn’t stuff this up!” exclaimed Chammas.
