Police were informed that a red Porsche Macan had crashed, causing a multi-vehicle pile-up.
The 41-year-old man accused of driving the Porsche approached a white SsangYong Rexton, whilst armed with a firearm.
He allegedly shot the male driver of the Rexton in the arm, stole the vehicle and fled the scene.
It is not believed the two men were known to each other.
Police located the stolen Rexton crashed in Landsborough, near Forestry Road, around 12.35pm.
Three crime scenes established
The man proceeded to steal another vehicle, a grey Mazda 3 driven by a learner driver.
He was arrested a short time later near Steve Irwin Way and the firearm was recovered inside the vehicle.
Chief Inspector Jason Overland said there are three crime scenes have been declared, with one at Palmview and two in Landsborough.
“There’s many witnesses to investigate, there’s forensic crash evidence to take into account, there’s dash cam footage, there’s a whole range of investigations which is happening behind the scenes now,” Overland said.
A woman and man, who were in another vehicle at the time of the earlier traffic pile-up, were injured as a result of the crash.
The 22-year-old woman was a passenger in the vehicle and died in hospital. The man in the car with her was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
