Will Childcare Be Free For Low-Income Australian Families?

An inquiry from the Productivity Commission was presented in Parliament today and recommended making child care free for low-income families.

The government-funded inquiry was tasked with finding a price mechanism that could wipe out childcare costs for families.

The recommendations are for families on incomes below $80,000, and for subsequent children, 5 and younger, on incomes below $140,000.

The free childcare scheme would assist one in three families with children under 12.

The inquiry found early childhood education attendance would increase by 10 per cent.
