Joe Biden is dropping out of the race for the 2024 US presidential election. He also endorsed his Vice President, Kamala Harris, to take his spot for the top role.
She’s since confirmed that she’s up for the challenge and wants to ‘earn and win’ the right to stand against Donald Trump in November.
Vox Senior Political Reporter Christian Paz deep dives on what we can expect next from the US Democratic Party on The Briefing:
“She’s not very popular, but she’s definitely – there’s a bit of a break with how unpopular President Biden is,” said Paz.
“Part of this is because a lot of people know her name, but they don’t necessarily know what she does or who she is,” he said.
Paz said some might remember Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party in 2019 and 2020.
“Some critics would say that she’s opportunistic or that she’s calculating or that she doesn’t necessarily believe in anything. But the way that she would phrase that is, you know, she wants to try to get as much help as quickly as possible to the greatest number of people, a bit of a utilitarian in that sense.”
“Ideologically she definitely falls a little bit further to the left on President Biden when it comes to issues like the war in Gaza,” he said.
Harris will now need to secure a running mate, secure a majority of delegates and win over voters.
