“At around 12:30am GMT (10:30am AEST), three drones were observed in the sky over Isfahan. The air defence system became active and destroyed these drones in the sky,” Iranian state TV said.

According to the Iranian state-run news agency, IRNA, air defences were activated across multiple provinces, including over the Isfahan air base.

Following the reported missile strikes, an Iranian official spoke anonymously to Reuters and confirmed that the explosions in Isfahan occurred due to the activation of Iran’s air defence system.

Iran suspended flights over several major cities, including Isfahan, Shiraz, and Tehran. Commercial flights have been rerouted over western Iran.

This latest development comes in the wake of Iran’s recent drone-and-missile attack on Israel following a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Syria.

Amid the rising hostilities, Iranian state media also reported three explosions near an army base in northwest Isfahan.

So far, Israel’s military has not responded to a request for comment from the Associated Press.
