Three suspects, including Jess Gerardo Garcia Cota, known as El Kekas, his girlfriend, and his brother, have been arrested in connection with the murders.

They have been charged with kidnapping as police continue their investigation.

Evidence found at the campsite, including tent rods, a gun casing, plastic gallon bottles, blood stains, and drag marks, further corroborated the tragic events.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers also confirmed the identities of the brothers.

“We can only imagine what this ordeal has been like for them and for the loved ones of Callum and Jake,” he said.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese expressed deep concern over the incident.

“Our embassy in Mexico is working with local authorities as well to try to ascertain what has happened here,” he said.
