Trump calls Zelensky a ‘dictator without elections’

Donald Trump has accused Volodymyr Zelensky of being a “dictator without elections” who he claims is “doing a terrible job.”

In a post to Truth Social this morning, the US president has criticised the amount of money his country has spent in arming Ukraine. Trump described his counterpart as a “modestly successful comedian” who played Biden “like a fiddle.”

His comments come less than a day after he held a press conference blaming Ukraine for the war with Russia and falsely suggested Zelensky’s approval rating was as low as four per cent.

“I think I have the power to end this war and I think it’s going very well,” Trump said in a press conference at Mar-a-Lago.

“But today I heard over we weren’t invited. You’ve been there for three. You should have ended it three years. Should have never started. You could have made a deal.”

No Ukrainian or European representative was invited to the US’s latest peace talks with Russia in Saudi Arabia.

Zelensky accused the US of sidelining Ukraine and Europe from talks following the meeting.

Trump’s new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio spoke after those discussions saying there was a long way to go before a deal could be reached.

However, both sides agreed to form a high-level team to negotiate a settlement to the war.

Zelensky said the President is living in a Russian “disinformation space,” in reaction to Trump’s press conference yesterday.
