In a social media post earlier Sunday, Trump announced that he initially planned to delay his trip by two days due to the assassination attempt but decided against it.

“I cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else,” he said.

Mr Trump highlighted that there is no place for violence in America and called for a cooling down of political rhetoric.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos survey, Mr Trump and President Joe Biden are tied in the polls.

However, the shooting shifted the campaign’s focus from calls for Mr Biden, to drop out after a poor debate performance on June 27.

Mr Trump will be formally nominated at the Rpublican National

The Republican National Convention, which is set to begin on Monday, will see Trump formally nominated.

The FBI reported no known threats to the convention, and the Secret Service has maintained their security plans unchanged.

The FBI has identified the suspect as Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, and is treating the incident as an attempted assassination.

Mr Crooks, a registered Republican and dietary aide at a nursing home, acted alone, with no identified ideology or mental health issues linked to his actions.

The Bethel Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center said Mr Crooks had performed his job without issues and passed a background check.
