Mr Chalmers said: “help is on the way” as he entered Parliament House after the usual budget morning photo.
In front of a long-waited media pack, he outlined the budget’s focus on easing cost-of-living pressures, combating inflation, and investing in Australia’s future.
He also underscored the significance of tax cuts, assuring that relief would be substantial and responsible, benefiting every taxpayer.
“The cost-of-living relief in this budget will be substantial and it will be responsible. There will be a tax cut for every taxpayer. And there will be more help to help people make ends meet,” he said.
While tax cuts are expected to form a significant part of the cost-of-living relief, Chalmers emphasised that they are not the sole solution.
“Our big priority here is to put the people front and centre. We know that people are doing it tough and that’s why more help is on the way tonight.”
He reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising the needs of the people and addressing the challenges faced by households across the country.
