Thousands of people are expected to hit the streets of Melbourne in celebration of the resignation of Dan Andrews.
Police are expecting a large rally following the official resignation of premier Dan Andrews after he steps down from his post at 5PM this afternoon.
Businesses and residents in the area around Parliament House have been issued a warning of a potential “protest/celebration” on Wednesday afternoon.
The warning was issued by the City of Melbourne and revealed that the rally was organised by the World Wide Rally group.
According to the note, “5000 people will attend Parliament House steps from 5pm Wednesday 27 September 2023” with speeches to be held between 5:30 and 6:30PM on Parliament House steps.
“Victoria Police and City of Melbourne will be monitoring the event. This is not a City of Melbourne organised event,” the note reads.
Victoria Police have said they are aware of the event and will have a significant police presence in the area.
The rally comes after the premier suddenly announced his resignation on Tuesday afternoon.
“It’s not an easy job being the premier of our state – that’s not a complaint, that’s just a fact,” he said.
“It requires 100 per cent from you and your family. That is, of course, time limited and now is the time to step away.”
