‘Teachers Pet’ convicted killer Chris Dawson has appeared via video in court to try to appeal his carnal knowledge conviction.
A warning, this article discusses allegations of child sexual abuse.
The conviction relates to an underage relationship he was found guilty of having with a teenage girl in the 1980s.
Hear about Chris Dawson’s trial on The Briefing:
He was sentenced to three years’ jail following a two-week trial, but now he is trying to overturn the conviction.
Dawson’s already serving a 24-year jail sentence for the murder of his wife Lynette Simms, which he’s also attempting to appeal in the high court.
Carnal knowledge would today be called child sexual abuse, but for historical offences, people are charged against the legislation of that time.
Dawson’s defense team are arguing that the teen was 17 when the pair’s first sexual encounter took place. However, the prosecution is arguing she hadn’t got her learner’s permit and was only 16.
