The City of Sydney in New South Wales have announced their support of a ban on gas in new buildings.
They have joined other New South Wales councils in banning gas in new buildings across the city.
The motion to ban gas was brought before the council on Monday night where eight of ten councillors supported the motion.
Both Parramatta and Waverley councils have also voted in favour of the ban.
This brings several NSW councils in line with other states including Victoria and ACT.
According to NSW Premier Chris Minns, a statewide ban is unlikely.
It is not yet clear when the ban will be implemented.
