Shark attack victim identified as teen surf lifesaver at Bribie Island

A 17-year-old girl has been attacked and killed by a shark 100 metres off the shore of Bribie Island. Emergency crews attended the scene just before 5pm yesterday.

The teenager was a surf lifesaver, Charlize Zmuda, suffered critical injuries while swimming north of Brisbane. It was reported Charlize was there with her friend.

Paramedics called to the scene found Zmuda fighting for life with severe upper body injuries. It was reported the 17-year-old girl died about 15 minutes after the attack.

Her family and friends gathered at the popular surfing beach in grief at sunrise on Tuesday morning.

Zmuda’s uncle told 7NEWS that his niece swum at the beach every day and was deeply familiar with the waters there.

It’s Australia’s second fatal shark attack in just over a month. The incident has sparked discussions about possible safety measures.

In January, surfer Lance Appleby, 28, was also killed in a shark attack off the coast of South Australia.
