Sam Kerr has officially been ruled out of the 2024 Paris Olympics, with Football Australia confirming the star’s ACL injury will keep her off the field.
The 30-year-old Matilda suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January – but had not previously ruled herself out of the games.
On Tuesday, the Matildas Head Coach Tony Gustavsson announced the 23-player squad for the ‘Til It’s Done Farewell Series against China PR in Adelaide and Sydney at the end of this month.
He said Katrina Gorry would also stay on the bench to continue her rehab from an ankle injury. At the same time, Kerr and Amy Sayer would also remain on the sidelines with long-term injuries, ruling them out of selection for the Paris games.
“I think everyone can do the math here and understand that obviously the Olympic roster will be based mostly out of those that are in this upcoming May/June camp,” Gustavsson outlined.
